Recognising and reporting Elder Abuse

Course Description

• National Standards for Disability Services NSDS 6 (all)

No older person should be subjected to any form of abuse, often referred to as Elder abuse. This award winning course looks at the various forms of elder abuse including physical, psychological, financial, sexual and the compulsory reporting requirements under the Aged Care Act. Age care facilities must ensure staff are trained in recognising the signs of abuse and ensuring the reporting is carried out using the systems and protocols in place.

Course Summary

In this course the following areas will be covered:

• What is elder abuse and what forms does it take?
• How to recognise the signs of abuse
• What staff must do if there is evidence of abuse or if it is suspected
• The reporting requirements under the Aged Care Act

The organisation will ensure that first and foremost that all residents receive the care they are entitled to which will reflect in customer satisfaction reviews. It ensures that every staff member complies with the requirements of the Aged Care Act, the very latest requirements and protocols are adhered to and the implications to the organisation in the event of these occurrences or failure to report.
